TSS and the Perfect Game
19 May 2004Yes, I ‘m a wannabe tech geek. I was sad when I found out the Leo LaPorte was no
longer on Call for Help or any of the other TechTV shows and then I rejoiced when
he came back. And then I was angry when I found out that TechTV and G4 were going
to merge. “What will happen to my shows?!” I lamented.
Well, The Screen Savers is going to make it through the merge. Huzzah! (But not, alas, Call for Help.) I’m happy for TSS because I’ve really become attached to the show. (Though the one guy is kinda scary. I’ll leave you to figure out which one.)
Anyhoo, onward! Sarah’s Download of the Day was a free (woohoo!) program called YahooPOPs! If you have a Yahoo account and long to check it through your email client, this might be the program for you. After a bit of tweaking, it works fine for me! Happy happy joy joy! And no, you’re not violating your user license or whatever because the program goes through Yahoo for you and it’s like you’re using Yahoo except you’re not using your browser. So for example, the (lame) siggy at the bottom of each email sent through the free Yahoo email service is still attached when you send mail. As long as you configure the program right. I’m sure you could configure your email client to send from a different SMTP. But I’m not going to chance it. π
The Perfect Game
I can’t believe I didn’t mention this last night. What kind of freakin’ baseball fan am I?
Randy Johnson threw the perfect game last night. We watched the highlights on SportsCenter last night. It was amazing. I wish I had been watching the game in real time. But since I’m not a Braves fan or Diamondbacks fan or even a Randy Johnson fan, there was no reason for me to watch. But the deed is worth mentioning because there have only been 17 perfect games. (A couple of no hitters could be argued as perfect games, but officially they are not.) So I mention it because I find it one of the most fascinating things about the game of baseball. One of my fondest wishes is to witness in real time a Perfect Game.
So, many congratulations to Randy Johnson. An amazing feat!

Check out the main domain!
I’ve revamped walelia.com. Take a look, if you so please. Hopefully everything is working all right…
Candlelight, story stuff, Gmail…
18 May 2004
I’ve started writing a bit to my story again. Nothing terribly exciting, just a scene. I really need to do what I was doing when I first started this unemployed stint– get up in the morning and spend at least three hours writing or trying to write. After our vacation, I just couldn’t get myself back in that routine. Now I have no routine.
I don’t know why I’ve started writing the story again. But I shouldn’t worry too much about it. I just need to keep writing…
I’ve also begun a revamp of walelia.com. It’s been a YEAR since I’ve changed that site. YE GODS! The domain that seriously needs a revamp is kiari.com. I can’t even remember the last time I touched the main stuff there. Of course, my Greg site is as updated as possible. If I ever get through the main domains revamp, I might think about re-doing my Ryan and Erik sites. I’m sure Ryan fans have given up on me (although I do still get email regarding him), but I do want to clean up the site up a bit, maybe find a more recent picture of him. π As for my Erik site, no one ever really emails me about him anymore. Alas! Plus he’s all the way in Australia. I bet no one who reads me even knows who Erik Thomson is!
Then there’s Karl Urban. I must mention that Karl has two movies coming up– The Chronicles of Riddick and The Bourne Supremacy. Go Karl! His movies are much more fun to watch, compared to Ryan Gosling. π Isn’t that terrible of me to say? LOL!
The world of Gmail
I did a websearch on Gmail the other day and found this funny site called Spam My Gmail. The experiment is this: “How long does it take to fill up 1 Gig of storage with spam? How well do Gmail’s junk filters work?”
I added the site to my Bloglines and today received an update. The spammed email account now has 1 terabyte of space instead of the 1 gigabyte. Wow!
Want to do some good and help with the experiment? prattboy@gmail.com is the email addy.
As for my Gmail accounts (I invited myself, so I have two accounts right now), I haven’t really been using them because I don’t want to get spammed and I’m not sure if I want to tell all my contacts that I have a new email address when I can’t POP3 or IMAP the Gmail acccounts yet. Plus I have no way to send the Gmail stuff to my Blackberry. Until I can do that, the accounts will sit for awhile.
Phone calls for charity…
17 May 2004I’m waiting for a phone call at the moment. A few minutes ago the phone rang showing an 800-number. Against my better judgement I answered the phone even though I’m sure my phone call won’t be coming from an 800-number. I was right, I shouldn’t have answered.
A surly voice came on the line, asking for me by name. He’s with a Veteran’s group or something, asking for donation. Unfortunately for him, I’m waiting on a phone call and I tell him so. Plus I wasn’t too keen on the way he sounded. Surly is probably the best word for it. So I tell him that I’m waiting for a phone call and I cannot stay on the line with him. “But these are your veterans, Valerie.” I apologize and he mumbles something and hangs up.
Right before he called, I was reading a Yahoo! article on Michael Moore’s latest film, “Fahrenheit 9/11.” The people at the Cannes Festival apparently like it. I’ll probably never see it. I’m not really into propaganda “entertainment.”
I hate waiting for this phone call. I hope I say the right things. It’s just so unnerving sitting here with the phone just over there. I hope the dogs don’t go crazy when I answer the phone. π
I’m saving this as a draft and I’ll post it after the phone call. I’ll probably add more…
(still waiting for the phone call and it’s 0921 hrs…)
JEN!!! I hope you’re going to take lots of pictures at the card show. I so wish I could go! π I wanna see Mulder!
1043 hrs
And so it is done. I got my phone call. The lady on the other end sounded sympathic, but not optimistic. I hope that my answers were enough to sway them to grant me what I seek. We shall see.
I was hoping to hear from the salon today. I wanted them to work on my hair for free! What else have I got going today? LOL!
I just finished taking a whole bunch of pictures around the house. Candle shots and doggie shots. My little dog refuses to stand by the big dog so that I can get a picture of the two of them together. Animals! π
Trevor Guthrie in EspaΓ±ol
17 May 2004
“Cadillac Dress” by soulDecision
I’m actually listening to the Real Media interview Trevor did with a Spanish Radio (DJ Chaco – Monterrey, Mexico). Well, the song just cut off and now we’re back with Trevor, speaking en EspaΓ±ol. Uh-oh, the DJ is speaking English now, but Trevor answered in Spanish. Go Trevor! LOL!
The DJ is speaking in English (for Trevor’s benefit, I think) and Trevor is answering in Spanish for the listeners. It’s just so cute!!! π
And all my Spanish has fled me. Alas! π
Pictures from Hawaii!

“Completely” by 98ΒΒ°

Kauai ~ April 2004: Woohoo, I’ve finished the pictures from Hawaii! Hopefully everything looks all right. One of these days, I might add the .avi files I did while we were there. π We shall see.
And thanks to those who come by and comment…
You’re all lovely! π
Heads up on Mark Mulder!
I can’t believe I forgot to mention this!
Funshows.com – According to an email I got: “Mark will be at the Vallejo fairgrounds may 22 2004 5pm as a autograph guest after the game”
The funshows.com website only has this info for that day:
Collectible Expo – Cards-Stamps-Coins & More
May 21-22-23 2004
Vallejo – Solano County Fairgrounds
Unfortunately, I can’t make it. π I am attending a wedding that night. Alas! A chance to see Mulder and I can’t take it. Such is life. So if *you* can go, go! And tell him that I said hello. π
And my baseball day is already over…
16 May 2004
Oakland 6, Kansas City 2 at Kauffman Stadium
Winning Pitcher – Barry Zito (3-3)
Losing Pitcher – Brian Anderson (1-5)
OAK Runs: 6, Hits: 10, Errors: 0
KC Runs: 2, Hits: 5, Errors: 0
Oakland Record: (20-17)
Crosby, Zito lift A’s to sweep of KC – The recap of today’s game
Notes: Pitchers scoff at questions – A little discussion about the Big Three and the troubles they had a couple of weeks ago. π

I couldn’t find a Zito photo, so another one of Mulder from yesterday will just have to do. π
I didn’t get to watch the beginning of the game because I went to the mall and got my haircut. It’s short! I like it. π I watched the game when I got home. They were still down 2-1 when I sat down, but scored soon after. Always fun to watch the boys win. I didn’t get to see Zito pitch though. Alas!
And oops! I forgot to mention my fellow Taurus, Barry Zito, on his birthday. Zito turned 26 on May 13th. Happy Belated, Zito man. π

See, shorter hair. π
