And the A's win! Oakland 8, San Francisco 7 at Network Associates Coliseum

Winning Pitcher – Octavio Dotel (1-0)
Losing Pitcher – Jim Brower (4-5)

SF Runs: 7, Hits: 12, Errors: 0
OAK Runs: 8, Hits: 15, Errors: 1

Oakland Record: (41-32)

One of those freakin’ up and down kind of games. Before the started, they announced Tim Hudson’s stint on the DL, the first of his career! The start of the game wasn’t so bad. A homerun in the first. But then that error by Hatteberg results in a partially dislocated shoulder for Rich Harden, who had been cruising along. ALAS! Hopefully he’s all right. Skip to the eighth inning and Dotel came in to shut down the Giants. But in the ninth, with a four run lead, he managed to squander the opportunity and blows the save by letting the Giants tie the game. Thank goodness for Scutaro, who hit the ball after Kielty had stolen second. And so ended the game.

And tomorrow is Photo Day! I need to get up hecka early so that I can meet my cousin at her place by 0830 hrs. Oh dear. I should go to sleep or something.

Did I also mention that at this moment my website is down? Right. I’ll be lucky to post this tomorrow or something. Gads!

The first inning was a killer…

25 June 2004

today in baseball San Francisco 6, Oakland 4 at Network Associates Coliseum

Winning Pitcher – Jason Schmidt (10-2)
Losing Pitcher – Barry Zito (4-5)
SV – Matt Herges(20)

SF Runs: 6, Hits: 8, Errors: 0
OAK Runs: 4, Hits: 8, Errors: 2

Oakland Record: (40-32)

Alas, Zito sucked in the first inning and the A’s couldn’t quite recover. Although they did make a run for it in the ninth…

We’re watching The Transporter right now. Groovy movie so far. Kickin’! πŸ˜‰

Oh my gosh, my Ryan Gosling site has gotten 250,000 hits or so since June 20th. Is that NUTS or what?! I’ve exceeded my bandwidth and now I’m thinking that I need to change webhosts. I like OLM, but perhaps I have outgrown my current account. Alas…

Day wins are always good

And the A's win! Oakland 2, Anaheim 1 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Winning Pitcher – Mark Mulder (9-2)
Losing Pitcher – Scot Shields (5-1)

OAK Runs: 2, Hits: 5, Errors: 0
ANA Runs: 1, Hits: 4, Errors: 1

Oakland Record: (40-31)

Mulder pitched a complete game. A-ha! So that’s what the starters need to do. They need to pitch the whole game if they want the win. Go Mulder! πŸ˜‰

Mulder mesmerizes Angels in finale… you know, because he’s so mesmerizing. LOL!

Thanks to my visitors!

Vikkicar – Tomorrow is The Notebook! Well, here in the US. πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to see Ryan Gosling on the big screen again. Sometimes I can’t believe that he was Young Hercules. LOL!

Olivia – You got my point exactly! Perhaps it wasn’t wise for those starters to say something, but I would probably say the same thing if I had to watch my lead blown by the bullpen too many times. It was all said in frustration, but it shouldn’t have been said to the press. They have such a way of twisting things…

Back home!

listening to... “HabaΓ±era” by Charlotte Church

I’m waiting for that darn postgame alert. So I’ll just babble until I get it or I want to go to bed. πŸ˜‰

Yes, we’re back home after housesitting for a week. Yeehaw! I’m really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed with just one dog to bother me in my sleep. LOL!

Love to the ones who read my babblings…

It’s been WAY TOO LONG since I’ve said thank you to my readers, so here we go. I hope I don’t miss anyone!

Nicole – I think I need to remind you about the thing Ryan Gosling. πŸ˜‰

Vikkicar – I bought The Notebook for my sister yesterday and she already read it! I’m so looking forward to the movie…

Wah – THANK YOU so much for the goodies I got in the mail! I think I owe you an email. And hopefully sometime soon something catches my eye and I can send some love back to you. πŸ™‚

::celeste:: – Snape, it’s always about Snape with you. LOL!

Olivia – Yes, I agree with you about Mulder. πŸ˜‰

Irish – Coupling airs on Sundays on BBC America. I think it also repeats during the week, but I’m not sure when.

Luz – The games from the last homestand seem so long ago. But hey, at least they won today. And your Giants aren’t looking too bad, eh?

Meesh – I loved sitting in on The Screen Savers. I so want to do it again. And Kevin is a total sweetie! Alas, they’re moving to LA at the end of July or beginning of August. The last taping from the SF studio will be on July 16th. I’m sad!

Jen – I miss Izzy too! And I wish the A’s hadn’t sucked that whole St. Louis series. Gads! I hope you’re enjoying your Gmail account!

Val – Orlando Bloom. It’s almost just enough to write his name. LOL! He’s on the cover of the latest People magazine. Yah! And thank you for the nice words regarding my mom. πŸ™‚

And the A's win! Oakland 7, Anaheim 1 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Winning Pitcher – Mark Redman (6-3)
Losing Pitcher – Kelvim Escobar (4-4)

OAK Runs: 7, Hits: 11, Errors: 0
ANA Runs: 1, Hits: 8, Errors: 1

Oakland Record: (39-31)

It was good to see my A’s win. But I was rather subdued while I was watching the game. I wondered if it would be enough. And I mostly ignored the bottom of the 9th because Jim Mecir was on the mound. I just didn’t need to see what he was going to do! But I did catch the last play. Stylish grab throw by Scutaro to Crosby. Nice!

On the mound tomorrow– Mark Mulder. I wish I could watch that game!

So a couple of the A’s starters made vague (or not) comments about the bullpen. And then Arthur Rhodes offered this (from the A’s Notes):

“We had two starters on this team say the bullpen needs to step it up,” Rhodes told CBS.SportsLine.com. “You shouldn’t say that. If we lose as a team, we all lose. If we win as a team, we all win. … If you’re not man enough to come to somebody on the field and tell them to do a better job, don’t say in the paper that we’re doing a bad job.”

So if the pitchers who made the comments weren’t “man enough” to say something to the bullpen, then isn’t Rhodes doing the same thing with his comments to a national columnist? Shouldn’t he have gone up to the pitchers in question and said, “Hey, you shouldn’t say that kind of stuff to the press” instead of saying something to a columnist?

I agree with the first part of the quote. If they lose a team, they all lose. And if they win, they all win. But just as the starters perhaps shouldn’t have said anything, then neither should Rhodes have said anything. He should have talked to the starters himself. Because it really just doesn’t help their game at all, the conflict. I’m sure by now they all worked it out. Hopefully. πŸ˜›

But as a fan, I must say that I agree with the starters and I totally understand their frustration. It’s frustrating for me, as a fan, to watch the bullpen totally squander the efforts of the starters. If the starter comes out with a lead after pitching a brilliant game, why can’t the reliever hold on to that lead? Isn’t that their job?

Anyhoo, that’s my time on the baseball soapbox. LOL!

The same refrain…

22 June 2004

today in baseball Oakland 1, Anaheim 6 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Winning Pitcher – Bartolo Colon (5-6)
Losing Pitcher – Tim Hudson (7-3)

OAK Runs: 1, Hits: 5, Errors: 1
ANA Runs: 6, Hits: 9, Errors: 0

Oakland Record: (38-31)

Maybe I should just save myself the torture and NOT watch the A’s when they’re on tv. Grrr! Very disappointing. But it happens and what can you do? Keep on playing. Yeah…

Have I mentioned how much I just love reading Wil Wheaton’s blog? He’s a wonderful writer and really just a joy to read. He recently posted about Gmail and the soldiers out there who might want an account to help them communicate with family and friends. And so Gmail4Troops was born. I’ve added my name and hopefully I get to send out some invites to those who’d like one. Heck, why not? πŸ™‚ (And if anyone out there reading would like a Gmail invite, I’ve still got a few I can send.)

I finished Single Wife. I liked it! I bought Bill Clinton’s book today. I don’t know why, since I rarely read biographies, but I figure it might be an interesting read. πŸ˜› Also new to the CD rack: Big & Rich, Josh Gracin, and the De-Lovely soundtrack.

We went to the hospital today. My mom had surgery. It was difficult to see her there in the hospital bed, but she gets to go home tomorrow. It’s a scary thing, what she had to go through. I hope she keeps her spirits high, but she doesn’t like to think that way. Alas. My aunt was just leaving when we arrived. It was good to see her. My sister came back from lunch about twenty minutes after we got there. We stayed a little over an hour, I think. Days of Our Lives was on the tv. The Ellen show just started when we walked out.

And then back to the house of doggies…

Dreams and yesterday’s game

22 June 2004

I don’t know when the postgame alert came but it was definitely after I went to bed. So, the details are below. Blah!

today in baseball Oakland 3, Anaheim 10 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim
(Monday’s game)

Winning Pitcher – John Lackey (5-8)
Losing Pitcher – Rich Harden (3-5)

OAK Runs: 3, Hits: 9, Errors: 0
ANA Runs: 10, Hits: 13, Errors: 1

Oakland Record: (38-30)

My dream is actually baseball related! Imagine that. This one involved Barry Zito. I think I was at a game, with my mother and sister (which is something that has never happened and will likely never happen) and Zito was walking by. I think he was signing autographs or something. I said something like, “Hey, I was the one who asked about Greg on the radio show.” Zito walked past me, then he realized what I said and came back to me. We chatted for a bit, then as he went to leave, I gave him my card (with my URLs and email address). He promised to email me.

So this is the second dream in which I’ve imagined giving Zito my card. Does this mean that the next time I see him, I must give him my card? And then what? Hmmm…

I am a little sunburnt from our poolside time yesterday. I used sunscreen, but I guess I missed some spots. And now I’m paying the price! πŸ˜›

Off to finish Single Wife. I’m almost near the end!

A lazy day, another loss

21 June 2004

I haven’t gotten my A’s postgame alert yet, so I’ll babble a bit while I wait for it…

My sister, visiting from Atlanta, came over today and we spent the afternoon poolside. Ahh, what a life I lead! LOL! It was nice being in the water, the sun warm on the skin, the breeze cool. I’m glad I got to spend time with my sister. It seems so long since we’ve just had time to sit and talk.

I’m currently reading Single Wife by Nina Solomon. An interesting story about a woman who pretends her husband is still around after he leaves and never comes back. (Well, I don’t know if he ever comes back because I haven’t read the end yet.) Strange, but gripping story.

The A’s lost. Again. This time to the Angels. Rich Harden pitched great the first four innings, then he gave up 5 runs. This after the A’s scored 2 at the top of the inning. Horrible. They really need to get a grip!

Kevin Rose and Sarah Lane signed their contracts to continue with The Screen Savers. Yeehaw! I keep having dreams about The Screen Savers studio. And usually Kevin is in them. I think it’s a little strange. Ah well. I want to go to one more taping of the show, but alas, I must be content with my one and only opportunity. And it really was a faschinating time. Maybe when they’re down in Los Angeles, I can sit in again. It’s so cool being part of a studio audience…

today in baseball A’s 3, Angels 10

I haven’t gotten my postgame alert yet and I’m sleepy. So that’s the final score. Blah!
