A’s double their pleasure, top M’s
Recap at the official site 😉
Notes: Menechino getting closer
Good news on Frankie! 😀 And I think I saw Ellis tonight at the game. I hope all is well with him…

My pictures didn’t turn out so well. Blah!
We had way cool seats though! MVP Infield is always nice. I had a great view of the plate. And if I looked over near the dugout, I could see the back of Mulder’s head. LOL! Isn’t it weird, I know what he looks like from behind.
The game was CRAZY! But in the end, it was all good because the A’s got the “W.” And wow, all the freakin’ doubles they hit! Eight doubles by the A’s. Glorious! We got a quick glimpse of Byrnes, but he didn’t get to go up to bat. 😛
I was all geared up in my A’s stuff: my Mulder jersey, my A’s earrings, my A’s jacket, my truck with the “I (heart)THEAS” license plate frames. I think it might have all worked too! Yes, I can be a little superstitious at times…
The Friday Five
9 April 2004Hmm, do I do this Friday Five with my last job in mind? Or present tense? 😉
1. What do you do for a living?
For almost eight years, I worked in detentions and corrections.
2. What do you like most about your job?
I loved most of my fellow employees and I liked how my job was a combination of the other jobs in the office.
3. What do you like least about your job?
Stupid people.
4. When you have a bad day at work it’s usually because _____…
I let the stupid people get to me.
5. What other career(s) are you interested in?
Now that I’m free, the possibilities are endless. Ultimately, I’d like to pursue my writing. How about a novel? Yeah, that would be nice!
GOOD FRIDAY
Tonight we’re going to the A’s game. I’m totally excited! We’ve got seats in the MVP Infield area. Maybe I’ll get good pictures. 😀 I’ll take lots of pictures. LOL!
And in the religious sector, Good Friday can be defined as:
Definition and etymology. Good Friday, called Feria VI in Parasceve in the Roman Missal, he hagia kai megale paraskeue (the Holy and Great Friday) in the Greek Liturgy, Holy Friday in Romance Languages, Charfreitag (Sorrowful Friday) in German, is the English designation of Friday in Holy Week — that is, the Friday on which the Church keeps the anniversary of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Parasceve, the Latin equivalent of paraskeue, preparation (i.e. the preparation that was made on the sixth day for the Sabbath; see Mark, xv, 42), came by metonymy to signify the day on which the preparation was made; but while the Greeks retained this use of the word as applied to every Friday, the Latins confined its application to one Friday. Irenaeus and Tertullian speak of Good Friday as the day of the Pasch; but later writers distinguish between the Pascha staurosimon (the passage to death), and the Pascha anastasimon (the passage to life, i.e. the Resurrection). At present the word Pasch is used exclusively in the latter sense. The two Paschs are the oldest feasts in the calendar.
From the earliest times the Christians kept every Friday as a feast day; and the obvious reasons for those usages explain why Easter is the Sunday par excellence, and why the Friday which marks the anniversary of Christ’s death came to be called the Great or the Holy or the Good Friday. The origin of the term Good is not clear. Some say it is from “God’s Friday” (Gottes Freitag); others maintain that it is from the German Gute Freitag, and not specially English. Sometimes, too, the day was called Long Friday by the Anglo-Saxons; so today in Denmark.

The eye kept watering…
8 April 2004My left eye has been bothering me all day! I took a nap in the afternoon and that seemed to help. But it’s definitely still very irritated and it’s still watering. Blah! But lucky me, it didn’t stop me from going out. 😉
The Prince and Me – I belong to Katherine Fugate’s email group and last week the talk was about The Prince and Me. Katherine wrote the story (along with Mark Amin) and screenplay (along with Jack Amiel and Michael Begler) for the movie. Katherine also wrote the Xena episode “When Fates Collide.” So, with the Xena connection, I just had to see the movie.
I enjoyed The Prince and Me. I liked Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You and I liked her in this film. Luke Mably is ADORABLE. And he was just right playing Eddie. I really really enjoyed his performance. The film itself was just lovely. I’m definitely going to buy it when it comes out on DVD.
If you haven’t seen it, GO! It’s a very sweet movie…
On a day of no baseball, new layout…
8 April 2004
“I’ve Got the World on a String” by Frank Sinatra
I LOVED my other layout. And if it wasn’t baseball season, I think that layout would have been around longer than less than a month. Oh well.
Besides the obvious theme change, the layout is only slightly tweaked. I like using tables to center the content. Instead of having the menu stuff on the left, it’s on the right this time. It’s called “version: just another play for today” because (and this is the long story) I was at Wil Wheaton’s site yesterday and the title of his entry was “luck has left me standing tall,” which very much reminded of a line in a song. I looked up the song lyrics online and lo there it was. One of the other lines in the song was “just another play for today” and I thought, hey, very baseball. So not only did I use the line for yesterday’s entry title, I decided to use it for this layout.
Now, from what song did I get that line?
Let me be a whiny bee-ah-tch now
I sent out invitations to our anniversary party a few of weeks ago. The last day to RSVP is April 10. In the invitation, I EXPLICITLY noted that the party is catered and PLEASE when responding to include the number of people in the group. We need a rough headcount, so I think I worded in a way that should have been easily understood. I left an email address and phone number for the RSVP. Easy, right?
When I was growing up, I think my parents called everyone to invite them to parties. Likewise, we got calls for family gatherings. It’s probably a good way to touch base and a more instant method of compiling your guestlist.
But wonderful as the telephone is, so is good old fashioned postal mail. Right, not email, but postal mail. Isn’t nice to get mail in your mailbox? And oh, there’s also technology like email! Email rocks! 😀
My rant is this: most of my family has NOT RSVP’d. It’s really FRUSTRATING because I took the time to make the invitations (albeit on my computer), I stuffed the envelopes, and now I must wait. Do I take silence as a no show? Or do I take it as a “we’ll be there”? I’m not supposed to call everyone and ask them, am I? If I was going to do that, I wouldn’t have sent the invitations in the first place.
I would like to know who’s going to be a the party. And if they’re not coming, I’d like to know that too. Is it so difficult to respond?
No baseball today, but tomorrow…
We’re going to the game! Woohoo!!! Have I said how much I just LOVE the Husband? Well, I DO! 😀

A’s put brooms back in closet
Recap from the official site.
I’m bummed! Zito pitched well but no run support from his teammates. 🙁 Ah well, the A’s won the series at least. See, the bright side…
TOYING WITH LAYOUT IDEAS
My next layout is definitely baseball oriented. But I think it’s just going to be Mulder. 😉 I think I’ll save Zito for another day. 😀 But I definitely want to do something baseball, even though I do like the current layout a lot…
An indication of too much baseball on the mind…
7 April 2004Before I went to bed last night, I started working on a possible layout change for this weblog. Yes, it’s a Mulder one. 😉 As I was making the graphic I thought to myself, “I should do one with all my fellas on it. Or at least my A’s fellas.” My mind flashed to Zito, of course. “Right, make a Zito/Mulder layout!”
At around midnight, I stopped my work and turned off the computer. I went to bed and dreamt…
I was at a street fair (?) and the A’s players were milling about. It was a casual atmosphere. Either no one knew they were there or everyone had already gotten their time with the guys. I had my camera with me, of course. Jen was there! We met up just as we caught sight of Mulder. I wanted a picture with him (OF COURSE!), so we approached him and I told him I wanted a picture. He was happy to oblige. He sat down and I guess I was going to stand beside him (or sit on his lap?). I handed my camera to Jen and just as she was going to take the picture, Zito joined us. He wanted to be in the picture too. LOL! So Jen took our picture and I thank the guys. I wanted a picture alone with Mulder, but I never get one. 😛
I checked my camera for the picture, but alas, it’s not there! There are pictures of the street fair, cakes, flowers, etc, but no picture of me with Mulder and Zito. I was so disappointed! And somewhere there, the dream ends.
Strange, eh?
***Mulder, Dye back in form as A’s beat Rangers again – by Rick Hurd, CONTRA COSTA TIMES at Yahoo
A recap of last night’s game.
Mulderism:
“It’s good to feel completely healthy,” he said. “I was joking with (A’s broadcaster) Ray Fosse that this is the first time I’ve felt completely normal since July. All joking aside, it’s good to just make pitches and not worry about how I’m feeling.”

Another recap of last night’s game
***Chavez’s Golden gift by Mychael Urban
Oh my goodness, I think I’m going to cry. Can I just this? WOW!
From the above article:
Washington also told Chavez that a coach didn’t deserve such an extravagant gift, but Chavez wasn’t having it.
“He tried to tell me that I had done all the work, that I earned it between the lines,” Chavez said. “But I told him, ‘You know what, Wash? Sometimes the whole story isn’t told between the lines. You deserve this as much as I do.'”
***Zito, A’s prepare the brooms
Preview of today’s game.
“It’s hard to explain. Things just work out that way against certain teams. It goes the other way sometimes, too. The underlying thing is that confidence breeds success.” —Zito, on his staggering success against the Rangers
Zito is 11-0, 2.40 lifetime vs. TEX. So does that mean it could be a good game for him? Let’s hope so!
Ohhh! I downloaded the A’s 2004 schedule to my Outlook, which of course updated my PDA. Now I can check my PDA for game times and all of that! Isn’t that just totally geeky of me?! LOL!
And a win for Mulder! :D
6 April 2004
A’s 3, Rangers 1
Network Associates Coliseum
Winning Pitcher – Mark Mulder (1-0)
Losing Pitcher – Chan Ho Park (0-1)
SV – Arthur Rhodes(1)
TEX Runs: 1, Hits: 5, Errors: 1
OAK Runs: 3, Hits: 7, Errors: 0
Oakland Record: (2-0)

I had to listen to the game on the radio. The radio! Darn the A’s affiliate here!!! Blah! Is the game on tomorrow? I would love to see Zito on the mound. Yeah baby.
Yahoo recap of the game
Just a quick one from Yahoo.
A’s lean on Mulder, Dye in win
The official site’s recap of the game
Influenced by too much TechTV
I watch lots of baseball and lots of TechTV. Today it was “Call for Help.” Leo was talking about free, web-based email and I just had to try it! So I signed up for some free email at fastmail.fm. I couldn’t get “kiari” because it doesn’t have enough letters in it (the free account must have 7 or more letters), but I did get “walelia.” And since I’m a total goober, I signed up for a couple of more email accounts. It’s just my way of trying to take over the world. LOL!
Well, I started working on a different story today. I can’t seem to keep myself to one project. It’s frustrating! It sucks! But I did write a bit. I just need to write more. MORE!!! I must stop distracting myself with all the baseball. And yet it’s the baseball that has inspired me. Crazy!
I’m having thoughts about changing this layout, even though I utterly adore WGL. I want something Mulder or Athletics. It could happen. Hmmm…
