Are the days getting just a bit longer?

“Dance Me to the End of Love” by Madeleine Peyroux
Yesterday we celebrated my parents’ 35th wedding anniversary. 35 years! My sister and her fiancΓ© flew from Atlanta the night before. The gathering was mostly family and a few of my parents’ friends. It was very nice to know almost all the people at the party. My parents seem to have gatherings where I only know about half the people. It’s strange.

My parents, the cake, my parents and sister and me
I brought my video camera, so I ended up not taking as many pictures as I might usually take. Under one hundred photos is pretty good for me. π
One of my cousins has an import/export store in Sacramento and she brought a bunch of magic scarves. I ended up buying two! One dark green (of course!) and the other purple. I think I bought the purple one because of what I was wearing. LOL!

My niece modeling one of the magic scarves, my grandmothers resting her eyes, my sister and cousin talking wedding stuff, five lovely ladies (right?! right!)…
I wish my sister and her fiancΓ© would visit for longer than a day. They fly back home today, so they were basically here for one day. No fair! I wanted them to see our new furniture. π And I just miss my sister bunches. And I want to get to know my future brother-in-law. He already calls me “sis.” Sweetness. π

The couples shot!… Newlyweds, two in love, old married people, engaged ones
I wanted a picture of the eight of us together, but we were never all in the same room at once. Actually, seven of us were conversing in my sister’s old room (which is the tiniest room in the house!) and the hubby was in the pool room keeping cool and playing pool with my other cousins and uncle. Ah well, next time!

Four cousins being slightly silly…
The four of us are the youngest of our cousins. When we were growing up, we all hung out and we’re like sisters. Best friends because of blood and love. π It’s good to know people all your life and even better when you’re friends.

More family shots… three sisters with their mom, my mom and cousin, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, me with my niece, my other niece with my sister…
So when I say niece or nephew, I actually mean the children of my cousins. My sister and I have not yet procreated to have “real” nephews and nieces. π It’s complicated and doesn’t make sense to some people, but it works for our family. LOL!
I had a most lovely time. I love getting together with my family and I love when my sister visits. I hope everyone else had a good time too. My parents didn’t open their gifts though. Bah! I wonder what they got…
Listening to free music…

“Combat Baby” by Metric
I’m listening to the free songs I’ve downloaded from iTunes. I’ve always figured that if it was free, why not? LOL!
Dreamy dreams…
Although I’m pretty much off my meds, I guess all the thoughts of Xena conventions past have seeped into my head and I ended up having a dream about Chris Conrad. I was at a convention and he was there and no one really recognized him and so we were chatting. I wanted to know what he had been up to all these years and I asked him one of those burning questions: “When is your birthday?” In my dream, he replied that it was July 9th. Don’t think that’s right, but it was in my dream, so there it is…
Gmail anyone?
I have more than a few Gmail invites if anyone is interested. If you’d like one, just comment here or drop me a line at jazz[at]walelia[dot]com. I’m feeling generous. π
Speaking of conventions…
After I posted on Friday, I headed out to Creation’s site to check out the schedule and what did I see for Friday?

Right, Charles Mesure. How is it that he’s on the schedule but there is absolutely NO MENTION of him in the guest list? If I had known he was going to be there, I probably would have made the day trip down. It’s only a three and a half hours drive to Burbank from here. I think Creation really doesn’t want straight women at their Xena cons. What the hell do they have against us?! We’re not rowdy freak people for goodness’ sakes!
Oh, and Charles also played Michael on Xena, but that was a bigger character and they wouldn’t want to make a fuss about that, eh?
And yet I miss going to the conventions. Go figure…
Other dreams…
I keep remembering more dreams. π
We happened upon the movie Haunted, which I think prompted the following dream.
It was one of those dreams that seemed more like a movie. Some guy was having visions of people from the past and he was trying to help them or something. And in the end he runs into Amber Tamblyn. π
The end of the dream I was in a store after having won a contest or something. I had my choice of merchandise and I was looking for a Steelers’ parka. WEIRD!
Speaking of football, almost time for the game! π
The weekend is upon us…

“Disconnected” by Lindsay Lohan
Right, we bought the Lindsay Lohan CD today. Picked up Kelly Clarkson too. Rockin’ chicks, groovay. I’m actually surprised by Lindsay’s CD. Not so popsy cutesy and not so dancey either, like the “bonus track” Rumors. Why is that song a “bonus track” when it was the first single from the CD? I don’t get it!
I got to drive the new car today. Smooth ride. I love having a moonroof. Now I just need days a little warmer so that I can enjoy the rush of air from the top. π
We had lunch at the Elephant Bar on Wednesday and that night I was sick again. This time the whole nasal congestion, body aching thing. Ughhhh! I had some of the brownie/ice cream desert at E Bar and back at the office I had the window by my desk open because the office was too warm. The combination of ice cream and cool air did me in! Blah. I was out of it Thursday. I probably shouldn’t have gone to work, but I did. I was better today, so to work I ventured.
This weekend is the “big” Xena convention in Burbank. The Xena/Herc fan in me LONGS to be there, even though none of the lovely handsome men from the show are going to be there (no disrespect to Ted Raimi, David Franklin, Alexis Arquette, or Roger Morrissey). Actually, who the heck did Roger Morrissey play?! Anyhoo, if ANY of ***my*** fellas were going to be in attendance, I would have been there. Is it so much to ask for at least one of the following? Erik Thomson (’cause I’ve never met him in person), William Gregory Lee (because I want to wish him a happy birthday face to face), Ryan Gosling (who never appeared on Xena but did play Young Hercules), Karl Urban (just because I MISS HIM!!!), Chris Conrad (I just want to know what he’s doing nowadays), Bruce Campbell (because I always seem to miss seeing him), Charles Mesure (I want to see him in person again), Patrick Fabian (even though he only had one Xena appearance, he’s groovay), Tim Omundson (because I had a chance to take a picture with him and I didn’t!). I could think of more. Almost any combination of the above would induce me to make a trip down to So Cal. In fact, if only one of a few of those men were going to be a guest, I would be there! π
And oh, 10 years of Xena? No, it’s not ten years of conventions. It’s the ten year anniversary of Xena’s first appearance. The show debuted in 1995.
I heard from one of my former co-workers today. JOSH!!!! π It was great hearing from him. He caught me up on some SRJ gossip that I hadn’t heard yet. It’s nice to feel connected to my old workmates. Now I need to email him back.
I’m so glad it’s the weekend…
Drifting mist as the sun sets…
18 January 2005Our new car rocks. The navigation system is way groovay! I’ve even gotten a chance to drive it. π
Last week I had another NyQuil induced dream. I was sitting on green grass with Trevor Guthrie and we were listening to soulDecision’s song “Kiss the Walls.” For some reason Trevor was writing the lyrics and he asked me how to spell something, but he had the word all wrong! I told him that the next word was supposed to be “sacrifice.”
And here’s a good one of my favorite player in his first public appearance as a Cardinal…

Mulder in St. Louis
The doggies got groomed this past weekend and we got haircuts. I have a rather retro cut right now and I’m not sure if I like it. LOL! Ahh well, my hair grows fast…

Saffy, Meggie, the navigation screen on the TSX, and me with the retro cut…
Good night!

![]() “Where’s the mini-skirt made of snakeskin? And who’s the other guy that’s singing in Van Halen? When did reality become T.V.? What ever happened to sitcoms, game shows?” You took the bitter with the sweet in 2004 – and kept laughing. |
Baseball
Byrnes back on the bus – a nice article on Eric Byrnes and his Dominican league adventures…
Fan Fest 2005 – Mark your calendars! Saturday, February 12th, 10am to 4pm. I just noticed that they are calling the Coliseum ” McAFEE COLISEUM.” Umm, YE GODS!
Life in General…
Old stuff out, new stuff in.

The old bed is gone, the new bed is here!
Over the weekend our new furniture got delivered. The old bed has been around since I was in high school (ye gods!), so it was definitely time for a new one. The new bed is much taller than the old one. The little dog is having a not so fun time trying to jump onto it. π Oh well!

The new living room furniture…
We also got new living room furniture. I can’t seem to take a good picture of it, but above you can see the colorful cushion. π The couch and loveseat are plum and the tables are a nice golden wood.
New Top Banner…
I needed something new for the weblog since the holidays are now past, so I decided to feature the first fellas of my online life: Kevin Smith and Erik Thomson.
Kevin Tod Smith was “Ares” (and a few other characters) on Hercules, Xena, and Young Hercules and the third actor I met from the shows. (Michael Hurst and Renee O’Connor were the first.) He walks among the angels now, but I still think of him now and again. I owe a lot to him– from my online adventures to friendships nurtured in mutual admiration for him. He was a man with presence, warmth, and sweetness.
Erik Thomson was “Hades” on Herc, Xena, and YH. Australian viewers probably know him best as Dr. Mitch Stevens on the medical drama All Saints. Erik’s family long ago emailed me, then he did as well. He was the first actor to email me because of my website and even though I’ve been neglectful of the site, I still really do adore him and wish him well in his endeavors. Someday I would love to meet him. π
At the moment…
I am home from work because I’ve lost my voice. It began on Thursday. I went into work yesterday, but hardly spoke. I decided to stay in today because then I could rest and not talk. I did go see the doctor and the NP who saw me ruled out anything serious. Of course, if it persists for more than three days, then I need to go back and see the doctor. Right-oh!

My new Blackberry and my new camcorder…
Yes, I got a new Blackberry! I love it. It’s so groovy. π And I am also the proud owner of a new camcorder. Rockin’! π So far I’ve taken shots of the doggies.
I had the weirdest dream! This girl I know confesses that she’s been messing around on her boyfriend. And in real life, it would never happen. But I woke up very disturbed about the dream. It was so real!
I think it was the NyQuil…
Around the Horn
5 January 2005The A’s Catchers: a look into the backstop boys. π MLB is running a weekly series featuring a different position on the team. Groovay. Even though the article yaps more about Kendall, the picture is of Melhuse. π
Just a Geek signing in San Francisco: Omigosh, Wil Wheaton is going to be in San Francisco next week. I so want to go!!! I want to get my copies of his books signed. π
Fourth day in…
4 January 2005Sometimes my mind just goes blank when I sit to blog. Alas.
How about reading this week’s A’s mailbag? π
Oh, and I must remember to tell a funny story about a question asked in front of older Catholic ladies.
