one plea to the universe
3 November 2008I promised myself that I would not speak of anything political in my livejournal. So here I am on Moonlit Jazz with just one message on this Eve of Election Day.
My fellow Californians, please…
VOTE NO ON PROP. 8
I’ve tried to see both sides. I like to think that I’m an open minded person when it comes to different issues. I endeavor to educate myself and base my decisions on facts, devoid of emotion, with a logical mind.
But this particular proposition touches me in a most personal way. One of my wonderful cousins finally got to marry his longtime partner this past summer. He’s happy, he’s in love, and now he’s married. I’m happy for him because I love him and he’s my family. He wanted to make that commitment and our wonderful state finally allowed him that dignity and right.
I’ve made my choice and I’ve cast my vote. What does that mean?
I’ve decided that marriage is a commitment between two people. And it does not matter to me if those two people are men or women, black or white, Chinese or Filipino, etc. Who am I to deny two people the opportunity to take that step and get married? Why am I allowed to marry and they are not? How can you judge someone by who they love? How can you say they aren’t allowed the right to choose their partner and make that partnership legal?
Who am I to decide something like that?
Who are you?
I have no powers of persuasion in this. I only need to say this aloud. I do not want to hear the argument against this because I’ve heard it. I have. And no one can change my mind.
Just remember, we are more than what anyone says we are. We have the ability to adapt, to change, to evolve. Most of all, we have the ability to love. And I can only pray that when people cast their vote tomorrow, they let love into their hearts and make the right decision.

\tab We didn't want to cater to the trick-o-treaters, so we watched a movie at the new theatre.

\tab I took this on the spur of the moment because the leaves are usually blown away when I'm outside at lunchtime.

21 October 2008I’m getting a replacement for my Curve. It started losing its ability to find the EVDO signal, which I know is strong. Everytime I pick up my phone and it shows 1XEV, it will change to 1X. Unacceptable! Hopefully the replacement phone works. I love my Curve, even though I do want to take a look at the Storm. New phones are so much fun.
Ever since Comcast announced its plan to throttle customers who use too much bandwidth, we began to notice that our internet service was getting splotchy. It’s become a routine for me to check our internet speed with speakeasy.net. And our cable service has been okay, but the DVR sucks. We’ll start to forward to skip the commercials and suddenly we’re back to the beginning of the program! ANNOYING! And truly, don’t get me started on the whole no NFL Ticket or rugby. Ugh!
We can’t go back to DirecTV (oh, how I miss satellite television), so we’re going to try out AT&T U-verse. It can’t be as bad as Comcast, right? And hopefully the internet will be more consistently good instead of intermittently horrid. If all goes well, I’ll have so much more to say about Comcast. But I’ll wait until the U-verse is in. 😉
Sunday morning
19 October 2008I’m listening to “Please Don’t Go Girl” at the moment. Is it too early for that?
For some reason, the clock on our house alarm jumped back an hour. Even given the fact that it’s almost time to revert to standard time, this would not have been the weekend to do it. So I wonder what day the clock on our house alarm think it is.
The fun thing about the Genius feature on iTunes is that it pulls from your whole library. It can be embarrassing at turns, but I bet you I haven’t listened to the current song (“Treat Me Right” by Backstreet Boys) ever. And it’s not so bad a song. 😉
Oh baseball! Last night’s game was just a disaster. From TBS’s dumbass delay (did we ever get an explanation?) to the Rays coughing up yet another game, it just wasn’t a good night for baseball. Oh sure, the Red Sox fans would beg to differ regarding the outcome of the game, but am I the only one cheering for the spunky Rays? No, I’m not.
Still, should the Rays make it to the World Series to face the Phillies, I’m not sure which team will get my cheers.
I’m dowloading the latest version of the Flock browser.
Holli the dachshund is barking at the something outside. Maybe. Or she’s just saying hi to the cats that roam the backyards.
Football starts soon. It’s hard not having the Sunday Ticket. I never thought I’d think that as I am a baseball fan, but darn it, not seeing the Colts play has been getting on my nerves!
