The A’s are off today. At this very moment, the Tim Hudson Golf Classic should be underway. I wish I were there!

Mychael’s Mailbag – The last question has been going around in my head. It has to do with a suggestion that the A’s try and get a Japanese player. The “unsigned” person contends that it could boost the popularity of the A’s, noting the huge Asian population in the East Bay. Mychael answers on the money issue (if the suggested player is so good, then wealthier teams would go for the guy), making a very good point.

My take? It shouldn’t take a Japanese player to draw the interest of Asian would-be fans. If they like baseball, they like baseball. Speaking as a Filipino person who didn’t even like the sport until her teens, I believe that you should love the sport for what it is, not who plays it. Sure, you have your favorite players. I know I do! (Mulder, Zito, Hudson, Tejada, pre-Yankees Giambi, McGwire, Steinbach, Bordick, etc.) But a team shouldn’t try to draw fans by parading one specific player of one specific ethnic background. If that makes any kind of sense. I think I’ll have to work that one out. Anyway, just my take. Incoherent, but relevant to me. LOL!

The point – if you love baseball, you love baseball. The game, the pitches, the double plays, the saves, the steals, the home runs, the ninth inning. You just love it all. But hey, if it takes a certain player to open your eyes to it, then so be it.

Dollar Wednesday: A’s over the Blue Jays, 4-2. Tim Hudson is now 9-9. 😀 Just before I turned my car off at work, I got to hear Eric Chavez’s 26th home run in the 1st inning. Made for a good day…

Work was a little weird Wednesday night. It wasn’t super busy, but the vibe was different. I don’t know what it was. But I actually did all my work without help. How odd is that?

I want someone to beta read my baseball story so far. I think I’ve got too much dialogue, but maybe for the first part that’s okay? I don’t know. I’m so out of practice with the whole fiction writing thing. Alas.
