sometimes when I hear “In the Ghetto”

I remember Kevin Smith. I remember that one convention and the Bards Band’s first performance. And I remember Kevin Smith singing “In the Ghetto.” I closed my eyes while he sang and it was as if the spirit of Elvis Presley was singing through Kev. And it touched me almost to the point of tears.

Do you ever feel so moved by music that you want to cry? It happens best when you’re in a live audience. Maybe it’s a concert of classical music lifting your spirit for a ride. Or maybe it’s your favorite singer catching your breath and stilling your heart for just a moment. And you’re lost in this sea of sound and imagination, happy to be there, wishing it would last forever. Have you ever felt that way?

I’ve felt that way. And I think it’s been too long since I’ve lost myself to that feeling. Much too long…
