We made our reservations for Hawaii. Seven nights in Kauai. I can’t wait! 😀 Rest and relaxation in a tropical setting. I think I’ll take lots of pictures. 😉
The last Thursday of the month we’re seeing George Strait in concert. Dierks Bentley is opening up for him! Cool beans! On that Saturday we head down to Burbank for the Xena Convention. I am so excited! It’s been almost three years since my last convention. YE GODS!
My second Xena convention was back in 1998 in Burbank. It was the first time I met Kevin Smith. And it was my first “big” convention. (My first Xena/Herc con was the San Francisco one in 1997, but it was only a one day thing I think.) Two days of milling through the dealer rooms, listening to the various guests. But the first thing was the KSOFC brunch, my most favorite part of that weekend.
Sometimes I remember as if it were only yesterday. The strange nervous feeling I had. The way the room just stilled for a moment when Kevin came into the room. Kevin’s warmth and graciousness. Our picture together. Shaking his hand.
Such a sweet, sweet man.
I miss him.
I was a little lost at that convention. I didn’t really know anyone. I merely enjoyed being there, taking in the sights and sounds. I had no ties to anyone, only a vague connection to my fellow fans.
What will it be like this time? I think I’ll enjoy it, in a kind of nostalgic way. It’s been a long time since the “big” convention has been in Burbank. Is it a sign that the Xena fandom is waning? I wonder.
I shall be armed with my digital camera. I’ll share the pictures with all of you. I wonder how nerdy the convention will be. LOL! 😉
Maybe I can meet up with some friends while I’m there…
