with Mike Bordick at Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Have I ever mentioned that Mike Bordick was my favorite A’s player back in the day?

I know, I’m skipping days here, but I must tell my Mike Bordick tale while it’s still fresh in my head!

We just entered the gates and the husband asked me if I wanted an official Orioles magazine (we just bought an unofficial one because Eric Byrnes was on the cover). I replied with a why not yes and while he was buying it, I glanced over and saw a man in a number 14 Bordick jersey. And it looked like Mike Bordick! I had to ask the vendor if it was in fact Mike Bordick and he said that it was and I knew I had to say something to him. He was holding a bucket for the donations to the victims of Katrina. A Comcast camera man was standing by and when I came to drop my money, he stopped me and asked me to do it for the camera. The “money shot” as he said. So I had to wait a moment before once again approaching Mr. Mike Bordick. I couldn’t stop smiling! When the camera man said go, I tried it again and dropped my money into Bordick’s bucket.

No one else came around for a moment, so I took the opportunity to tell him that he was my favorite player when he was with the A’s. He smiled and ran a hand over his head and said something about having more hair back then. He asked what I was doing in Baltimore, “chasing the A’s shortstops?” I laughed and mentioned Byrnes too, but told him that we were visiting the area. I asked to take a picture with him (OF COURSE!) and he gladly obliged. Before I left, I introduced myself (so backwards am I, eh?) and we shook hands and he said thank you (for the donation).

I was so stoked about meeting him that I couldn’t truly take in the fact that I was walking through the beautiful and marvelous Oriole Park Camden Yards.

A wonderful time at the ballpark. I took lots of pictures! I can’t wait to share them. Later.

And yes, I caved and bought a jersey that does not say Mulder on the back. It says Tejada, which is all right, eh?

In front of Margaret Mitchell’s apartment on 990 Peachtree Street

Have I ever mentioned that I’ve read Gone with the Wind four times?

So of course, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum was on my to-do list on Friday. It’s actually been awhile since I’ve read GWTW, but it is still one of my favorites. The tour was cool. The tour guide told us stories about Mrs. Peggy Marsh and her family and we got to stand in The Dump (as Miss Peggy called when she lived). She lived in number 1, which was on the bottom floor and it was there that GWTW was written. We walked through the modest digs and it was a little eerie to think that this was where one of my favorite novels was written. Very cool.

After Peachtree Road, we headed out to Phipps Plaza for a bit of shopping. Phipps Plaza is quite posh! And as it was a workday, it wasn’t too crowded. I ended up buying two purses (ye gods!). We had a bit of lunch as well before going back to Norcross for the wedding rehearsal.

One of these days I’ll catch up.

It’s so wonderful having internet access on the road.

A quick rundown of our time here so far…

We landed on Wednesday after a relatively comfortable flight. We didn’t have that long a ride to baggage claim and our luggage popped out one after the other when our flight’s stuff came out. Pretty cool! We got our rental (a Lincoln Town Car) and headed out to Norcross. My sister (aka the bride to be) called us on our way and met us at the Hilton after work.

First thing, our room was wrong. We were supposed to get a junior suite and instead got a regular room on the 10th floor (executive floor). We didn’t care about getting free breakfast and afternoon cocktails. My sister got our room situation straightened out the next day.

She took us to the Mellow Mushroom for pizza (with no mushrooms) and salad, then showed us a few sights within distance, namely the chapel and the gorgeous houses in the neighborhoods. Then we headed to her place.

I wanted to see the dogs, Hershey and Nike. Hershey is a lab/pit bull mix and Nike is a Yorkshire Terrier. He’s insane! And I say that with all affection. He’s so funny! Hershey doesn’t like having her picture taken but I’ve managed to take a few good ones. Nike is a licker, errr, lover and an ankle biter (at least he likes biting Hershey’s ankles).

My sister and brother-in-law have a lovely townhouse! I like it! We did some wedding stuff and just hung out. Twas good quiet time. Plus I got the little dog to cuddle with me. Awwww.

Our parents and cousins came in early Thursday morning and we all had our hair done at my sister’s salon in Buckhead. Van Michael is a rockin’ place! Busy busy busy! Linda was my stylist and she did a great job on my hair. I love it!

My sister hooked us up with tickets to the Braves game against the vising Washington Nationals, so we headed out to Turner Field after a quick lunch at the Chick-fil-A. Turner Field is GORGEOUS. Who would have thought? Whenever they show it on tv, it doesn’t seem impressive. The playing field is just any other, but the surrounding stadium rocks. First off, there’s the “largest High Definition scoreboard in the world.” It’s AWESOME! Then there’s the 755 Club. We had access and it was great! We were the first patrons at the bar (TJ was our bartender) and we had nachos and beer before the place started filling up. We took a walk around, checked out our seats for a couple of minutes (didn’t sit in them for the game), then headed back up to the 755 Club to watch the game from there. We didn’t stay for the whole game, but the Braves did end up winning in extra innings.
